SOE is a well-established charitable organisation dedicated to supporting the work of Operational Engineers for the benefit of public safety, and brought us in to improve its London headquarters with a fresh look to improve workflow and evoke a new company culture.
Rather than relocating to new offices, SOE stayed in its existing three-storey building in Westminster and brought us on board to transform the dark, uninspiring and impractical space into a light, upbeat and productive working environment. In addition to improving the interior, SOE also requested that we work on the appearance and accessibility of the building’s outdated exterior.
Gaining approval from the charity’s trustees before going ahead, we restructured the entire layout, opening structural walls, removing all existing partitions and reinstalling air conditioning throughout the building.
We fitted open plan designs across all three floors, with glass partitions to create a sense of brightness in the absence of natural light, and used natural materials including wood and stone to bring a little of the outdoors in. For the sad-looking exterior, we replaced all outfacing windows and doors, levelled the garden to facilitate wheelchair access and highlighted SOE’s presence in the building by including the company logo at the entrance.
Involving a complete overhaul from the ground up, this was our biggest project of 2015 and one that we were proud to see lead to an immediate improvement, not only to the organisation as a whole, but to its longstanding employees, who were grateful for the added light and flexibility that our agile design solutions provided. Injecting a much needed touch of colour and creativity, we were pleased to deliver for SOE a comfortable and collaborative workspace where employees can feel both relaxed and inspired.
We are a friendly bunch and would love to hear from you. Get in touch or sign up for regular updates. If you are passing the office – pop in and say hello.
